HIA Approves New Lease Valued at $168,000
(Middletown, PA – June 24, 2015) The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) board today approved for staff to execute a land lease on HIA property, which will ultimately result in $168,000 per year in new revenue.
The 36-month ground lease with United Parcel Service (UPS) is for a seven acre parcel of land, previously used as an employee parking lot, at the east end of HIA. This lease includes two 12-month extension terms. UPS will invest $7 million dollars to build a mobile distribution facility, also known as a Hub in a Box concept, and plans to have the project complete for the 2015 holiday rush. This lease will generate $168,000 of annual income for SARAA.
“We are pleased UPS has chosen to expand their footprint at HIA,” said Fred Sembach, SARAA Board Chairman. “UPS has been a long time tenant at HIA and we look forward to working with them on this new project.”
Board authorizes staff to award contracts
The SARAA board today approved over $370,487 in contracts to be awarded as follows:

Passenger traffic off slightly for May
SARAA reported that 496,701 total passengers used HIA between January and May, 2015 – a decrease of two point six percent, when compared to the same time period in 2014.
“While traffic is down slightly compared to 2014, we are pleased that the majority of the airlines serving HIA are up when comparing 2015 to 2014, year to date,” said Edwards. “Air Canada, Allegiant, American, and Delta have all seen increased traffic, with Allegiant being up nearly 43% compared to last year.”
