HIA staff member Bill, and his wife Deb, took Allegiant’s new Myrtle Beach service from Harrisburg International Airport in the name of research, to see what MYR has to offer.  We know Myrtle Beach for its beautiful white sand beaches but what Bill reports back, it’s much more than that!

After an easy flight from MDT to MYR on Allegiant’s new nonstop service, Bill and Deb picked up a rental car and headed straight to their lodging.  All in all, from the time they left home till the time they were in their hotel, less than 4 hours.  Once Bill stocked the cooler, they were headed to the beach for a little relaxation.  South Carolina is famous for calabash stile sea food (breaded and fried)  being a Northerner, Bill is used to Maryland style seafood.  Wondering if it existed in the south, Bill turned to advice from Visit Myrtle Beach Visitors Bureau and checked out Shiver Me Pinchers.  Bill and Deb were delighted to find authentic Maryland style  blue crabs.  They ordered a dozen steamed crabs that were as good as any found in the northeast and at a decent price.  It was the perfect end to their first night in Myrtle Beach.

Day 2:  Up and atom, Bill and Deb reserved the morning for beach time, this time exploring the North Myrtle Beach area.  After a lovely morning walking along the boardwalk, Bill and Deb headed off to the Barefoot Princess Riverboat.  This riverboat cruise docks at the Barefoot Landing Marina and includes dinner and live music while floating along the Intracoastal Waterway.  As the captain said, “it’s the most fun you can have on the water without getting wet.”

Day 3:  To start their day, Bill and Deb explored different neighborhoods off the main strip of Myrtle Beach.  Bill’s best advice, “look off the beaten path.”  He and Deb stumbled upon Hippo Nacho in the Market Commons area.  Bill claims it was some of the “best roasted pork soft tacos” he’s ever eaten.  Best of all they were a steal at $2.95 each plus $3 margaritas to wash it all down.  The Market Commons boasts 11 restaurants, more than a dozen shopping experiences, and even a play area for the kiddos.  Bill said these little gems are dotted all over the Myrtle Beach area, you just have to take the less chosen route and you won’t be disappointed. 

Deb was most excited to check out the Carolina Opry on day three.  Rated one of the best attractions in all of Myrtle Beach, the anticipation was high.  And it did not disappoint, two hours of high-energy music, comedy and dance in a beautiful theater.  Bill and Deb rank this as the highlight of their entire trip.

Bill and Deb enjoyed their Myrtle Beach Adventure so much they are booked again later in June and taking the rest of the family along.  No more long car rides for this family!
