July 2017 – Board Meeting Press Release

SARAA Board Awards Contracts Aimed to Improve Airport Experience
Year-to-Date traffic up 3.4 percent

(Middletown, PA – July 26, 2017) The Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority (SARAA) today awarded five new contracts totaling more than $300,000 for projects related to improving the customer experience at Harrisburg International Airport.

“Today’s action will allow us to replace an old long-term parking shuttle bus with a new one, begin the process of replacing the airline Flight Information Display System (FIDS) in the terminal building and online, continue to maintain the parking garage and to design restroom upgrades in the terminal building,” said Timothy Edwards, Executive Director of the SARAA, who owns and operates HIA. “HIA is known for its convenient, clean and easy to use facilities; however, next month the terminal complex turns thirteen years old. As a result, we need to continue to invest in key areas of the complex to keep up with new technology while improving aging facilities.” In addition, economic development and airport safety projects continue to remain on schedule.

Air Canada Sets new June Traffic Record

During June, Air Canada served 1,845 total passengers at HIA, marking its busiest June ever at the airport.  Edwards said that Air Canada’s additional Toronto flight is proving to be popular with business travelers flying to Toronto, and to destinations throughout Canada, Europe and Asia.

Through June 30th, a total of 591,775 passengers used HIA – a 3.4 percent increase when compare to the same date in 2016.
The next SARAA Board meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at 8:00 am, in the
David C. McIntosh Boardroom, located on the third floor of the HIA terminal building.
